Beautifully written. The Author's heartfelt tributes to his Mother, In-laws & best friend are very touching. Don't let the coffin part throw you off, because each of us will have a deeper understanding of what it's like to lose a loved one, yet not lose sight of what really matters . This book reminds me of Sean Hepburn Ferrer's memoir about his mother "Audrey", purchasing her grave in Switzerland, the price was 275 francs for 500 years, yet the "price of forever" was just another 75 francs. David Giffels is a very gifted writer, amongst his many other talents. I am ordering more copies for gifts!

How to continue to live when your loved ones die, and how to live well despite acknowledging the death we all face.Furnishing Eternity is about a woodworking project David undertakes with his father Tom, but it gives everyone a glimpse into the complex relationships we have with friends, family and parents. Around the framework of building a coffin, Giffels provides a path for the reader to evaluate his or her own life and relationships. I finished the book with deep gratitude for my own family and friends, and a resolve to cherish the life I have.While the topic of a coffin and death can be saddening, the book is ultimately joyous and life-affirming. Highly recommended, and a book I will probably read again and again.
I realy enjoyed this book. Lots of symbolism.
This is the third DG book Ive read and like the two others it is fantastic. I find his books to be so genuine and authentic to the human experience. Don't let the title fool you on this one. You will experience every human emotion as you read this.
