Military historians will be disappointed to see no footnotes, a thin bibliography, and an overall journalistic narrative rather than a history. Despite these drawbacks, Hammel does an excellent job of detailing how Israel prepared for the war and describing combat. Moreover, his highly readable style will be popular with public library patrons, especially if this is the first book they read on the subject. S.L.A. An excellent overview of how Israel prepared their entire population with the military and emotional skills to overcome numerically greater Arab soldiers and equipment.It makes very clear Israel is prepared to fight until death to keep their nation free from their belligerent neighbors. The book also makes clear why the was was as short as it was
I did not know the extent and far reaching impact of these seven days. I particularly liked the descriptions of the Israeli preparations. Some pictures or photos would be interesting, maybe leaders or some of the wesponr.
Book gives you an appreciation of how the Israelis accomplished an apparently impossible feat.The history leading up to the war is the key.The poor motivation of most of the Arab forces is also a key factor.
the book is a tremendous step by step review, first of the development of the IDF and then the actual war. However, discussion of the Egyptian side and viwepoint and world reaction is superficial at best. Also, maps are imperative to follow the course of events. The maps in the Kindle version are unreadable. This is one book that should be read in paper

This book was not what I hoped it would be. As a history major I was looking for a balanced narrative of all events leading to war in the middle east in 1967. What I got was a book that read like an Israeli high school history book.I read this on my Kindle and had a tough time doing so. It probably was not proof read before publishing. There were few periods ending sentences, commas placed randomly and many words runtogether. The word "in" was written as "m". It made for a tough slog through the book. The author tends to glorify everything the Israeli forces di in this war. His bias overshadowed the book.
